Though Connecticut is small in size, it’s not lacking in variety when it comes to its higher education options. From large research universities to midsize colleges and liberal arts colleges, Connecticut’s schools run the gamut in size and specialty.

Many of the top schools in the state are located in cities like New Haven, Bridgeport, Fairfield and Hartford, the state capital. It should also be noted the Connecticut residents can attend select public colleges throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine and receive a discount for tuition on approved degree programs through the New England Regional Student Program.

The rankings for each college include basic details like tuition and fees, enrollment, regional or national university ranking, user reviews and more.

At the top of the list is the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, which is also ranked second among northern regional colleges. The institution is a military service academy with an enrollment of approximately 1,072 students.

Fairfield University, a private school that enrolls more than 4,100 students, ranked second in the state and is tied for third among northern regional universities.

In third place for the state is Yale University, which has an enrollment of nearly 6,000 students and is tied for third among national universities.
